Intentions

Welcome; the intention is to tell a little about my whereabouts, travel adventures, and issues at Elk Ridge, including when I will be on the ranch, when a great time to visit (send grandchildren), etc. Hopefully there will be different divisions for Travel, Ranch Activities, etc.

NFR

Still enjoying the NFR, Las Vegas. Went to a Brooks and Dunn concert with Reba McIntyre. What a great production, even though we had semi-nose bleed seats!
Tomorrow is a horse auction. Lord have mercy.
Having a great time!

Elk expedition

Well, most of you know I'm at the ranch hunting for a nice fat bull elk. Well, having a great time, working hard, no bull yet though. The scenery is beautiful, and it's too bad it takes a hunt trip to see this creation in such an early morning moon well before dawn, then just before, hence the pics from the high lonesome country.
Day 1, saw two bulls, Tussling, long ways off. Long day, was up at 2:40.
Day 2, more up and down ridges, climb mountains, surprised by 5 bulls in timber. Fired off a round real quick, no further opportunities as everyone ducked for cover!
Day 3, long early am hike, glass up a bull at 1300 yards. We crept within 416 yds, great shot resolution, missed twice. I'm usually a fair shot, so when we got down we both checked Bobby's scope, way off. So, now using Sterling's rifle!
Day 4, today, another long hike,  saw no bulls but glassed up a beautiful Big Horn sheep ram. He came right at me, got within 200 yds, so I whistled and then he saw me. We just looked at each other a few minutes, talked a while, then he slowly turned and moved off. A really neat experience.
Tomorrow, another day, will meet Sterling at Three am for another drive down the Blue, back up into the Blue Primitive Area. Exhausting, freezing, early am, but beautiful and worth every effort.
Love to all, will k.i.t.

Updates

Hi Family, just some updates:
Some of you know already, Autie had some surgery couple days ago. He's recovering nicely and the pathol report is essentially negative for malignancy. I'll give him clearance to resume driving shortly.
We are flying over to Yuma this afternoon to visit Lynn's son Alex and his wife Jessica, stationed on the Marine base there.
I'll be getting up to the ranch Wed am, get ready for the elk expedition for Thanksgiving Day afternoon. Lynn is on call in Tucson so she'll be working. Poor thing! At least she's off for the Christmas season!
Elk hunt ends I think the 4th of Dec maximum, and we go to Las Vegas for four days for the  rodeo on the 13th.
 Just some FYI.
Hope all is well around the country!
 Just some FYI,
Love to all,
DAD/UR
(yes, AD, I got the "farm "box". They wouldn't release it until thirteen signatures affixed and now I can hardly open it. Good grief.) Interesting things in there though, including the Civil War widow owning a tract from 1871. Interesting. You're going to still be in charge of the CRP stuff, Right?🚮🍸😀

Greetings All! I know the "Senior Sibs" as I affectionately call them, probably have received this from Joyce, but I'll forward it so the "junior sibs" can see it too. Interesting article about Uncle Bill and his B-17 experiences.

Oktoberfest

Ah, the calm before the storm! Nice semi-chilly morning, waterfall tumbling, hot coffee, good book.
10 hrs and about 95 "closest friends..
The secret is to find a German couple about twenty-plus years younger, wind then up, turn them loose! And, more importantly, a beautiful energetic partner to boot!
Doors open at Six ish. There will be a nice moon, 2.5 kegs of German bier, fireplace on, German musik; the party will just flow by. If you're in the neighborhood.....!

Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield...:-)

Camp

Most of you know, time for the annual Los Charris ride. Kind of degenerates after half inch of rain..Lynn's motor home mighty popular. Still, sure beats workin', and it's five o'clock somewhere.

Was just announced, KU has lost 39 of 41 Big 12 games. Bummer.
Oh well. Now it's 35-24 here, trying to hang on!

Rain rain

Good morning from the ranch. Fall is definitely here, but way more rain than typical. No power/limited phone & internet all day yesterday, and this rainbow still this am. It was Brilliant but by the time I got the camera it faded some. Here's hoping the So Carolina families are keeping dry!!
Trailering horses down to Tucson today later after new shoes, then to Kansas Friday for the weekend and home Monday.
Then it's Los Charros.
Trust all is well around the country with everyone!
Hang in there A Diane!

Auf wiedersehen!

To Munich we go...US air 113, then US air 1515.

Edelweiss Lodge

Tough to see these things, stark reminders of what we enjoy in life and from whence they come.
Also tough to see the covered islamists dutifully following their spouses and three-four kids following, roaming the streets, escaping their own hell, but who also will force irreconcilable change on this culture and Europe in general.
Lots of servicemen and their families here at this lodge. You should hear their conversations. Takes me back decades..

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Heading for the airport after an amazing two+ weeks.
Couple of pics to follow..

Garmisch!

Found Inger at the front gate, drove over to Linderhof Palace, great dinner at a famous and old Gasthaus. A really day!
Tomorrow is Munich!

Alps

Progress Report..
The river cruise is done...the last day or two went fast, w the last evening feted by a small sampling of Oktoberfest just off the boat at Vilshofen. The mayor came down, gave a speech or two, as did the Queen of the Vilshofen Oktoberfest. Well, it's a rather convoluted story, as to just why, but he selected me along with another three guys to demonstrate the men's part of a traditional dance off Bavaria! So there we were...for efforts we were rewarded w another beer portion (smallish don't worry) and a nice kiss from the Queen! I'm sure she's sneezing and maybe coughing some more but hopefully not! I believe there is a video somewhere but not to be exhibited!
We checked out, taxied to the rental car place, and coughing and sneezing away headed to Berchesgaden. We did a really nice tour there and set out for Garmish. That trip was supposed to be about two hours, but turned into 4 due to construction.
But, we are safe in G-P, this is the view from our balcony. The very best part is that Inger just landed in Munich and should be headed to the train station!
Who knows what the day will bring, need to check on the Montalto's..
Love to all, Dad/UR

Oktoberfest

As many of you know, we (along w one of Lynn's German partners) planning on having an Oktoberfest party our house in Tucson, Oct 24. There is a football game that day as well, hopefully in the afternoon!
Anyone at all considering coming?? If so, need to pick up a couple of small Drindls and a little Lederhosen! (Wouldn't that be a kick to see?)
Tomorrow we leave this river boat :-( .
We've had a great time, and, with ANY luck at all, we will meet up with Inger in Garmisch!!!
Love, Dad/UR

Schonbrunn

Just another "we are here" photo...but it's kind of a cool one!

Schonbrunn Palace

Really nice tour today! Home of Maria Theresa and, of course, Marie Antoinette, only one of her 16 children.

Vienna night

Attended a very nice concert (Strauss, Mozart of course..) at the Imperial winter palace of the Hapsburgs this evening. Really a fine experience.
All remains good here in Austria; heading into the Homeland tomorrow.

Typical

Our cruise manager giving a typical afternoon briefing giving info about the next day, in the lounge. Tomorrow is busy; either a) walking tour of "hidden Vienna" or b) bicycle tour, or c)Schonbrunn Palace (seat of Hapsburg Empire) and/or a concert at the Vienna Opera house that night. And, they have just added a tour to the Lippezeimer(sp) riding school academy. Those are hard tickets to get, wonder how they did that..
The palace is unbelievably spectacular, actually built in competition to Versaille.
What to do, what to do..
But that's tomorrow; tonight is a Wine probe" outskirts of Vienna.
Welcome to Austria!

The Danube

Boats up and down, beautiful day for a walk.

Surfacing!

Out for a walk in the sun; old train station in back ground. Really no sign of migrant horde anywhere around these parts but lots of police presence.

Dinner

Funky little place where we had our first Budapest-Hungary dinner. Old newspaper clippings on the wall, piano player along the back wall. Busy little place, good food.

Budapest!

Made it! It's now 7:11 pm, and I believe it's 1:11 pm home.
Got to the hotel w/o incident, crashed for a nap for a couple of hours, now off for a light dinner. This place is hopping!
From the top of the Hilton for a quick little glass of wine..
Love to all,
Dad
ps: well, this didn't get last night, so try try again. Of course it's for in the morning here, can't sleep due to the jet lag, but feel ok. A really nice little and inexpensive dinner last night in a small place recommended by one of the hotel staff.
I can see where the 'Cats less Nev at end of third quarter.
Later!
