Intentions

Welcome; the intention is to tell a little about my whereabouts, travel adventures, and issues at Elk Ridge, including when I will be on the ranch, when a great time to visit (send grandchildren), etc. Hopefully there will be different divisions for Travel, Ranch Activities, etc.

Home bound

Check in: spent the night in La Junta CO. In the trip down the Smokey Hill River Trail/Solomon/Saline yesterday, was able to quickly visit a lot of sites I've studied on paper but never seen first hand. For me, the incidents and people who were participants are not so remote. For example, you young whipper snappers, tomorrow a lot of use will celebrate the 70th Anniv off D-Day. In fact, the Indian Wars and depredations in Kansas occurred just 70 yrs before I was born!
Anyway, this am a visit to Bent's Fort on the Arkansas, impt not for the Calvary but a civilian fort for the fur trade direct on the Sante Fe trail, then a bee line for the ranch, 9 hours away.
Love to all, UR/Dad

RE: Reunions

Richard, thank you for the pictures. The first one was moving.  Nine years has resulted in many changes.  Wayne

I know there are lots of these pics around, but thought I'd send these along. This particular photo is from 9 years ago. I guess we are moving along...

RE: Reunions

Thanks for the pics Richard. I added two of my own. The precious, precious one was 2005. So sorry the time was short with your girls. It just tempted all of us to travel to AZ! Hugs to you all. Judy

Topeka

Gassed up, chocolate supply obtained, time to head west.
Ken, I stopped by the main BP building again and this time was successful, found Max and Naomi Baker! He is the Pearl Harbor survivor and a real pleasant guy as I'm sure you recall. The Capital-Journal just had a nice big write up about him and his WW II experiences on the South Pacific; he went upstairs at a fairly brisk pace and brought me down a copy. Naomi is doing very well, as is Max. Naomi turned 99 yrs a few days ago, Max is 93. While he does have some degree of dementia, they are both doing very well and we had a real nice visit.
