Intentions

Welcome; the intention is to tell a little about my whereabouts, travel adventures, and issues at Elk Ridge, including when I will be on the ranch, when a great time to visit (send grandchildren), etc. Hopefully there will be different divisions for Travel, Ranch Activities, etc.

Home bound

Our last night in this pretty place. We enjoyed the company of Ash and grand children for several days, then drove up to Toto Santos for a day. We spent another lazy day on a beautiful beach snorkeling and swimming with beautiful fish, big and small. We even had a (very) late night in Cabo San Lucas and had an amazing meal right on the Marina.
These are pics of a very secluded beach we found, of the original Hotel California, and the sun setting over the Sea of Cortez.
Home tomorrow!
Love, Dad/UR

Cabo San Lucas

Enjoying Cabo, view from the condo. Grandkids down on the beach somewhere, w Ashley. We are missing Matteo, home with his little broken arm with Paul! I understand the sea and the surf sounds are pretty much ho-hum for the "coastal Dicksons", but where else might one have the opportunity to buy a time share every 20 sec?
Love too all, Dad/UR.

Kansas

Greetings All,
Since I seem to be grounded for a while in Tucumcari NM due to snow/icing in the Albuquerque area, I'll get a synopsis of the most recent Kansas journey.
First, Thanks to Jim and Augusta and Wayne and Anna and AD and UR for letting me stay with them in varying stages of the journey! And Thanks to Jim for the loan of one of his trucks!! I really appreciate it!
Mom seems to be holding her own, though she does sleep about 98% of the time. She continues to express deep appreciation when anyone helps her in any way, and says "wonderful" frequently. For the first time I asked her if she knew who was helping her this time, she looked at me and said "No". I then told her, and recognition filed her face and she did "Oh Richard, of course I know you", and squeezed my hand tight, and asked new to stay with her. I will remember that. When she slept again I had to leave. Mom seems to eating a fairly good amount every other day our do, but she had two good days back to back Sunday and then Monday when I was there.
I was able to get some more farm stuff done and some odds and ends cleared up, and even found time to get some more turkeys...If anyone wants some free wild Turkey meat (yum yum..) just ask.  Although I left some with "dead eye Jim", and AD wants a few pounds, I will have some left over.
I was able to join A Augusta and the whole Shepherd family, except for Craig who still isn't up for visiting after his recent chemo, and Wayne and Anna's while family for a great Mother's Day dinner at E mporia CC.
One more thing; the Dickson family reunion comes up June 1 this year. Capt Judy Hawkins is mandating a "Progressive Pasture Party", where we have to have picnics with wine and appetizers on everyone's farms, along with history lessons, somewhere in there. Now this could take some time since we all go back to the 1870's and we do have a few..Go Judy!! I'm In, so there will be at least two of us. Wheee!
Other news tidbits for those who haven't heard, my favorite Grand Son broke his arm pretty badly. He's doing fine p op of course, but I got him a train anyway! We'll have fun with that!
Love to all, UR/Dad
 Well, time for

The Plaza

One of a couple hundred fountains in the Plaza, beautiful! Saw the "original" in Rome a few months ago.
Not so crowded here, no pick pockets!

Nice day, KC MO

A really good museum, educational exhibit. The National WW I Museum.

Emporia airport

So, I'm trying to get a taxi to go to Jim's office to borrow a truck, with no success. An elderly gentleman comes in to talk w the man behind the desk, and was asked he wouldn't mind dropping me off at Jim's office since the taxi seemed to be a no go. Jim was out burning his pasture, Joyce at a wedding. He seemed eager to help out and I was grateful! He was out checking on his airplane...he still flies a Comanche around. He was an Army aviator in WW II, and instrumental in developing the Norden bomb site. He flew the P 51 in Europe and out of Africa. He is as sharp as me on a good day, doing very well in fact. He is 93, and I have a new hero!
He knows Augusta well, good friends with Herschel, knows the whole bunch. I guess he ran the local jewelry store (of course here knew Augusta..) He said he knew Carl and Nellie Marx well since his dad was also a carpenter. Old home week, a small world.
Anyway, I think as long as one can fly one might live forever!
Now, off to Kansas City, see if AD still lives here!
See ya, love Dad/UR

Kansas II

Hi Everyone, some updates:
I've talked to hospice a couple of times these past two-three days, and while there's no big changes, and Mom's vital signs are stable, she is no longer getting around enough to go out to the lobby for her meals, such as they are. She is eating very little and her weight loss is continuing albeit at a slow pace.
Ken: I haven't heard anything from the local farmers. I guess I didn't expect to, but:
I'm heading back to Kansas in the morning via the ranch. I have my truck up there now, and I'll take the Bonanza. It looks like I have a window of opportunity between storms/winds, Hopefully. While I'm back, I'm going to make another site visit talk cattle, deer stands, etc.
Diane: I will be at the mercy of the winds/weather if I get the plane back there. I'd like to leave my options open as they say. If the weather holds I'll go for Olathe (if they don't remember the last Debacle of 1984...). If I just get tired or winds are high I'll stop off in Emporia, rent a car there.
Ash: I don't know if I'll be able to join up with you or not on your whirlwind tour. I may beat you there, may not, you know the drill.
I plan to stay the week, then start homeward, drive or fly. Note to AD,  I'm NOT bringing home anymore chests, chairs, urns (concrete or otherwise), elves, pictures, figuringes, boxes, steel coyotes, etc.
Well, here we go again, Love to all, UR/Dad
